15th International Symposium on Electrokinetics (ELKIN2024)

The 15th International Symposium on Electrokinetics (ELKIN2024) and 2nd Meeting of the International Electrokinetics Society (IES) was successfully held in Seville, Spain, from September 18th to 20th, 2024. Hosted by the School of Engineering (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería) at the University of Seville, Spain, the event brought together a vibrant community of researchers.

The organizing committee, led by Antonio Ramos, Pablo García-Sánchez, and Pedro A. Vázquez, welcomed a total of 80 participants, including 15 renowned invited speakers: Silvia Ahualli, Martin Z. Bazant, Jouke Dykstra, Menachem Elimelech, Alfonso M. Gañan-Calvo, Ankur Gupta, Sung Jae Kim, Amit Meller, Hywel Morgan, Georg Pesch, Todd Squires, Xiao Su, Yuki Uematsu, Gilad Yossifon, and Boris Zaltzman.

A highlight of the symposium was the presentation of the inaugural IES Awards by IES President Martin Z. Bazant. The Stanislav Dukhin Medal in Electrokinetics for lifetime achievement was awarded to Isaac Rubinstein, while the Johannes Lyklema Early Career Award in Electrokinetics was conferred upon Ankur Gupta, both of whom delivered engaging keynote lectures.

The conference program featured a rich array of technical sessions, including:

- Fundamentals of Electrokinetics

- Electrophoresis, Diffusiophoresis, Soft Colloids

- Micro and Nano Fluidics, Active Colloids

- Desalination, Selective Ion Separations, Batteries

- Aggregation and Assembly, Separation

- Bioelectrokinetics and Biomedicals

- Nanobubbles

Additionally, two special sessions honored the extraordinary legacies of Vladimir N. Shilov and Dennies C. Prieve in the field of electrokinetics, specifically commemorated in the sessions Fundamentals of Electrokinetics I and Electrophoresis, Diffusiophoresis, Soft Colloids I.

In conclusion, IES President Martin Z. Bazant announced that the next ELKIN meeting will be held in the Netherlands in June 2026.
